Hi,
I try to explain it briefly!
GL performs the accounting and budgeting functions in the E-Business suite. It is the control module of apps because it owns the Set of Books that forms the basis for all other modules.Receivables, Payables, Inventory, Projects, Purchasing and Assets are the main subledgers of GL. GL shars the setup information with subledgers. GL only receives transaction information and doesn't send any trasaction information to other modules. The main transactions in GL are Accounting(including Multi-Company and Multi-Currency), Budgeting, and Encumbrance Accounting. The main setups are Chart of Accounts(Accounting Flexfield structure), Calendar, Currencies, Set of Books, Currency Conversion Rates, Journal Sources, Jiurnal Categories, Encumbrance, system Controls, Profile Options, Budgets and Accounting Periods.
