ERP IFS API Getting Started

Someone wants me to start working with Oracle ERP IFS Api's. I know nothing about this at all. Meaning I know nothing on ERP at all. They know this, but would like for me to learn to troubleshoot API's etc.
I am a Oracle novice, but know Microsoft Sql well, Visual Basic and .NET.
The powers that be have reasonable expections I guess they said it would take about a year to really learn ERP IFS etc. I am just wondering if that is a reasonable expectation?,
where is the best place to start to learn about API's and troubleshooting them etc. ?
Good books, tutorials etc??
Would this be a good forum if I had issues with API to come to, or are there other sites that you recommend??
