Oracle to launch new product for small retailers

Post by ahmadbilal »

IT major Oracle is betting big on the growing retail business in the country. It plans to launch a standard addition to its existing retail software product portfolio to bolster its revenues.

The new addition will target small retailers, helping them jump start IT operations and scale it up later. The company is looking at adopting an India-based pricing strategy for the new product. It is also in talks with retailers in the country to sell its software solutions.

?We are planning to release the standard addition early next year. Besides giving a choice to the small retailers , the product will not require any complex implementation procedures,? said Jay Bhow, senior director & centre head, Oracle retail centre of excellence at a press conference here on Tuesday.

Oracle has a global retail business suite comprising of about 18 products. Its software solutions for retailers include store solution, merchandising, supply chain, profit optimization, human capital management , enterprise application and transportation

Hi

Catering to the needs of small to mid sized retailers would have few challenges for Oracle.

Small retailers typically would look for low priced, less maintenance cost with a little more than basic features. I have closely worked with retailers based in India as few more countries and come to understand that high end retailers look for something different and low end have something else in mind...!

While we are on it, what are your thoughts on Oracle's success in catching up with big retailers...?
