how to ftp the form in binary,instead of ASCII

Hi,

SROSNRC: MISSING BYTE CONVERSION FOR NUMBER
PDE-PLI018:COULD NOT FIND LIBRARY OEXOELIB.pll

I got that error when i compiled the .pll in PUTTY.
when i searched in metalink for solution,it says
Make sure to ftp the form in binary, instead of ASCII mode.

My question is how to ftp the form in binary mode i.e., how to convert the file from ASCII code to binary format .

can u people explain me with instructions..
