How to migrate data keeping high DQI in mind?

We want to keep our DQI as high while migrating/converting the Financials data from our client's legacy systems (Home Grown) to Oracle and want to keep the DQI at its highest level taking cues from http://bit.ly/DataConversion and would like to know if there are any best practices or learnings from other projects/consultants available which can be followed inthis regard. Just top 3 points will help if not more.
