For Cross Instance Consolidation you will have
a. Source Instance - From where SOB data will be picked up
b. Target Instance - Into which SOB data will flow.This is Parent SOB instance.

You should have a subsidiary entity SOB defined in both instances using same 3 C's i.e. currency,calendar ...
