Yes I am using the Position hierarchy and I have also attached the supervisor to each employee in addition to defining their positions.

No. Its not behaving like that in my case. Even when I have defined the employee supervisor relationship and when approving I am clicking on Approve and Forward then the first person (alpphabetically) in that position is getting selected and not the supervisor. I have to select the supervisor manual...
