I don't thing there is much difference in the Period close of 11i and R12:
I fact they are the same, but for some of terminology like
Set of books : Ledger Etc
GL Close is the same as 11i
P2P Close is the same as 11i
OTC Close is the same as 11i
Invoice Approval
Invoice Validation
Completing all payment batches
Accounting of transactions
Transferring them to General Ledger
Closing the books
If exceptions exists, sweep and close the period.
