Dear All
Thanks to administrator to acknowledge and start this Forum.
This is a New Forum started by me and Admin to share the knowledge using the management concept of 5W's (What it is, Why it is, Who has to set, When it has to be set, Where it has to be set) and 1H (How it is set)
Example
Application Version: 11.0.3 to 12
Modules: All Modules which has the Flexfields
Industry Specific: All industries.
Two Types of Validation for the Flexfields
What it is: Format Validation, Value Validation
Why it is:
Format Validation: It performs the Validation on the Format of the Flexfield Values should be Numeric,
Character etc., and Number of Digit, upper case etc., while creating transactions using the Flexfield.
Value Validation: It performs Validation like Table Dependant, Independant etc.,
Who has to do it: Initially whoever performs the set up does this activity and it is not modifiable usually once it is set.
When it is Done: During the initial set up of Modules as for as Key Flexfield are concerned
and for Descriptive Flexfield also
Where it is Done: It is done during the set up of modules for both Key Flexfield as well as Descriptive Flexfield
How it is Done: This has to be Done in the Application only Manually and not through a Dataloading scripts., etc.,
Note: Most of the time in Interviews, when the Interviewer ask consultants, what are two types of Validation for Flexfields, then many consultants use to say Cross Validation and Security Validation which is not correct. The correct answer is as explained above.
All members whoever wants to share Knowledge about particular functionality are requested to follow this Format and address one functionality in one issue and Do not combine issues.
Members are expected to Contribute more to this based on their Knowledge gained in various Implementation Experience which will help others
Hope You find it useful and looking forward your valuable Contributions
Please do not make this Forum by posting unrelated junk issues.

Hi Siva,
This is very great and thank for your contribution. This is a very good forum. Hopefully it will answer many questions normally ask by newbies.
Hope it will be more practical than text book answers. I mean people sharing practical experience of how it was done than writing oracle user guide on the forum. Hopefully it will cover what you will not be taught in the classroom.
Bless you
Yemfola

Oracle supports 8 types of validations, but GL accounting
flexfield supports only 3 types of validation.
1. independent
2. dependent
3. table
coming to rest of validation we have
4. none
5.special
6.pair
7.translatable dependent
8.translatable independent
Independent:this tpye of value set does not depend on value
of other segement, example department is independent where
as sub department is dependent. Independent value set are
stored in application object library table.
dependent:sub department depends on independent value
(department).
Note: u wont see dependent value while defining flexfiled
qualifier.
Table: this tpye of value set is done with the help of
technical consultant. if we are using this type we cant
enter new segment values. it iwlll be predefined by
technicalconsultant.
Example in benz showroom u can see only few types of models
C,S,E classes and if the user creates new segment value by
Dclass it a loss to the show room . so in order to restrict
the user table type of validation comes into picture.
coming to other types
Tranlatable independent: when u install oracle application
in different langauges we use this type of validation .
None:after selecting none type if u enable number only
check box user cannot create values in alphabetic
characters, similarly if u use uppercase it allows only
alphabetic characters.
