The Diff between Journal Category and Document Cat

Post by roy »

his is a query of - Financical V4 document - ERPStuff.

We create a Journal Source -- XX_Journal Source
sysadmin > setup>Journal > Source

We create a Journal Category -- XX_Journal Categories
sysadmin > setup>Journal > catogeries

The question is where is XX_Journal Categories used? becasue

We create a Document category and named it XX_Journal Category
sysadmin > setup>Document > Category

This is attached as Appl >General Ledger and
Table Name > GL_JE_HEADERS
And Assigned it to GL > Set of Books

And XX_Journal Categories used as category when a Manual Journal is being made later.

Here the XX_Journal_Category (a Doc caterory)
writes to GL_JE_HEADERS so what is the function of the defined XX_Journal Categories.

If someone could please explain - will be great help to understand what is happening here.

Thanks

Roy

hai
i am saying as per best knowledge

Journal "Source says":-The origination point of the journal

i.e Whther it ias imported from Other modules or it is created manually.

Journal"category": says about the type of the jornal i.e asset,expenditure,revenue......here is 192categories ..

categories are usd for Cross validation rules

I asked the questions now after burning lot of oil I am posting answer I think this is what it is, if any GURU would be kind enough to shine some light - stating otherwise will be much appreciated.

The jist of the question once again, What is the difference between Journal category and Document category? - General Ledger.

Journal category is application specific, Document category is System Specific.

Journal Category is defined by
General Ledger: Setup > Journal > categories

Document Category is defined by
Sysadmin > Application > Document > Categories

The diff does not stop with the above - Oracle has almost 100 pre-defined journals categories. You create additional category if required.

Now Document Category - In oracle any journal saved is known as a document - a Document sequence numbering can be assigned aswell to each journal type or category.

Now we see that journal category has a connection to Document category - but where does this link take place?

Sysadmin > Application > Document > Assign
Application : GL
Category : is the Journal category name you defined
Set of Books : is the SOB you defined in GL
Sequence: is again what you defined.

so to sum it all up - if you created a Journal category it gets assigned through Document category for the SOB assigned for the responsibility
