Setup issue

We have 1 Business group installed with multiple legal entities, all of them mapped to one set of books.

Later they wanted to add another company who had different accounting needs. So we created a new set of books and we run their payroll under the current business group and while transferring data to GL move it to other set of books in the interface table.

Now we want Payables to go live for this new set of books. This set of books is currently linked to Legal entity which was mapped to the old set of books.

CAN I CHANGE the legal entity accounting of this Legal entity once it is in use, since already employees are assigned to this legal entity and payroll is live....???

What exactly is the purpose of LEGAL ENTITY ACCOUNTING and what impact it has in HRMS?
