Impact of changing Chart of Accounts

Post by Shashi_k »

Hi,

What will be the behavior of the system when we change the chart of accounts for example COA with 5 segments were used for 10 years and now company has decided to have two more segments. At this point of time if we unfreeze the COA and add 2 more segments what happens to the old existing code combination. Will the system will update them with additional segments.

Regards,
Shashi.

Hi,

Chart of accounts will not normally change in near future. Moreover oracle recommends that COA should not be changed because the data corruptions may occur..

while designing the initial COA , normally two or three segments added for future purpose with default values like all zero..

whenever u required the new segment, just change the name of the segment from future to as per your requirement.

if the default segments are not added.. better to go for new implementation...

Hi

Go through the following URL presented in OAUG Conference and click on the topic "Growing and Supporting Your Chart of Accounts"
PPT presentation

http://www.atloaug.org/new_index.htm

This will open only if you are in Microsoft 2003 and not in Microsoft 2007.

They have given instructions on how to do it.

Even for Testing purposes, we have done this five years ago.

Only issue is in AR autoaccounting, you may not be able to add the additional segments. Hence, You have to delete the Auto accounting existing set up and recreate then it will work.

But to my Knowledge it is not supported by Oracle.

May be you can log an SR in metalink and check is it supported
