Schedule Ship Date

Hi Gurus
How the schedule ship date gets calculated? sometimes it defaults to 2 days after the request date and sometimes it accepts any value i enter after the request date.
could anyone explain that to me plz.
My Qs is on R11 (11.5.10.2)

Hi
Standard ATP Code based on availability for the line items determines the Schedule Ship Date (SSD).
Scheduling is a concept, which helps to place the demand in the inventory based on the availability.
Scheduling helps with the following:
* Find the availability of the items
* Populate the Schedule ship date, arrival date and last acceptable date based on the calculated ATP Date
* Performs the reservation based on Scheduled Ship Date
* Calculates the delivery lead time based on as ship method
Sales order line would be scheduled for both the ATP as well non-ATP items based on the availability of the item. When scheduling is not performed during sales order entry (either manually or automatically), then as part of standard functionality, scheduling will be done by the workflow process.
Scheduling is done by the workflow process associated with the order line (OEOL).
Once the line is scheduled, SCHEDULE_SHIP_DATE is populated into the OE_ORDER_LINES_ALL.
The SCHEDULE_SHIP_DATE should be a value between the REQUEST_DATE and the LATEST_ACCEPTABLE_DATE

One thing to understand is - If you have non-ATP scenario, this means that system sees infinite supply of items. So, Schedule Ship Date is not dependent on item availability.
In this case - Schedule Ship Date would be based on you request date, order date type (Ship or Arrival), transit days, plant shipping calendar and carrier calendars.
If your order date type is 'Ship', your schedule date would most likely be same as the request date. If request date is same as the date you enter the order - you might have schedule ship date calculated for tomorrow.
if your Order date tyep is 'Arrival', Schedule ship date is calculated by:
Request Date minus (transit days and any not working days based on calendars).
