Event Based Workflow

Hi,
I want to know that how it is possible to execute a work flow on a particular event. Like if a user enters a new Item in Inventory i want my work flow to execute on insertion of that item. I have tested a sample work flow through the Developer Studio and it works fine, but i am unable to figure out how i can integrate it with the apps so that it automatically executes on an event.
