Depreciation

Post by tariq »

i have this case :

my customer added an asset on jan-2005,the flat rate =12 % , cost=15000 , so the depreciation for each year is 1800.

after 4 years the customer decided to change the rate to 20% on jan 2009 so i changed the flat rate to 20 with amortization to deduct 250 for each month( they want fixed amount thats why i choosed amortization with flat) but the big problem is they want to make it from 2007 so now the depreciation for every year is 3000 and we have 2 years need to update the diferrence between 3000-1800= 1200 and we have two years 1200+1200=2400 .
we need to add 2400 for the first period ( 2400 + 250 ) then continu with 250 -- 250 -- 250 for each month

before 2007 12% 2005 2006 2007 2008 Total NBV DEP2009

1800 1800 1800 1800
9600 5400 3000+2400
after 2007 20% 1200 1200

but we need to add 2400 only with the first period in 2009 with 250

srry the format is not ok the depreciation fro 2005=1800,2006=1800,
2007=1800 it should be 3000(the difference is 1200), 2008 =1800 it should be 3000 (the difference is 1200)

15000 * 20%=3000 and 3000\12=250

so we need to add 2400 (the difference for the 2007.2008 ) in the first period and continue with 250 for each month so jan 2009 we should get this amount 2400 + 250 then 250 --- 250 --- 250 until the last period

tariq,

As i have understood the issue is that simply u can't add depreciation from 2007 as ur current open period is jan 2009, FA will not allow it. U can simply amortize from jan 2009 with 20% depreciation. or if u still wana add from jan 2007 then pass jv in GL but u cannot make changes in FA.

thanks,

Dear tariq,

don't u think that it will exceed ur depreciation expense for the current period as u charged depreciation for last 2 years in one period/year as it should distribute over last 2 years...

Does your client agree wid this solution.... as i don't think it is feasible from accounts point of view....

Regards,
