How to pass variables in a Formula for calculation

Hi All,

Currently we have a transporation allowance i.e. fixed amount according to grade being paid to employees thru a formula in our company. Now we need to change the allowance as 10% of Basic provided a linkage to Grade Rate window to check for minimum. I understand that using Get_basic function we can do that. But how to pass the variables in the formula, i don't know. Can anybody help me in this area? or suggesting any alternative? I appreciate your quick help.
