Hi friends,
we're thinking on install Oracle Applications and DB in virtual mchines.
The idea is:
Buy a new machine where we would install VMWare and where would have two Virtual machines, one for DB and one for Apps. I've read something about that although this is not certified by Oracle, it could work ok. Do you know something about it? If you could send me information, links, problems that could appear, posts about if it's enccesary to have a phisical environment to do certain tasks...etc It would be very apreciate.

Thanks.

Jose.

Hi

If you wanna use it for TEST environment that's O.K. However for PROD it's never recommended. There are some extra overheads need to be taken into account when running Servers on VM. All instructions are translated at VM level first then passed on to OS and finllay to the Hardware, reverse layers are used for response back. So performance issues are one of the common drawback of VM.

Anyways instead of using 3rd party VM I would prefer to use Linux own built-in VM that can give you some performance gain but never expect 100% throughput.

Good luck![:)]
