What is Requisition?

Hi Apps Gurus,
I am new to this forum. Please let me know what is meant by 'REQUISITION'.

When a department need any material for their use they send request to store for issuance (Issue Requisition) and if not available in the store then send request to purchase department to purchase the same (Purchase Requisition). So requisition is demand/request. thanks
