discrepancy in Retained earnings -GL Issue

Dear All,
Can u guide me regarding the issue there is discrepancy in the Retained Earnings account, figures of the last closing and current openings are different i know that they may be different but client is of the view that there is no difference in that ,no reserves,no profit or loss and want to know what may be the reason for this please suggest the probable reason.
