How to check memory on Linux?

You can use free command to check the memory,
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3113160 3062652 50508 0 16616 1180152
-/+ buffers/cache: 1865884 1247276
Swap: 6144852 833324 5311528
For further detail and available switches use $ man free
