Hello.
Are you viewing the asset in the Books window?

Hello again.
Also please note that the Unplanned Depreciation button may be unavailable for assets subject to certain depreciation methods (other than STL).

Hi,
what is the journal entry when there's an unplanned depreciation?
Thanks

Hello.
It depends on the nature of the amount of the unplanned depreciation. The system will create a specific journal line for it under Depreciation category.
If it is negative:
DR YTD Deprn
CR Expense
If it is positive:
DR Expense
CR YTD Deprn
There will be always a journal for the normal depreciation.

Hi
Go through below mentioned points-
You cannot enter unplanned depreciation for assets shared between balancing segments.Assets posts the unplanned depreciation expense only to the depreciation expense account
you enter in the Unplanned Depreciation window.Unplanned Depreciation can only be entered for assets depreciating under a straight line depreciation method. This is why the Unplanned Depreciation button is not made available for such assets.
So there are some restrictions-
1.You cannot enter unplanned depreciation for assets depreciating under table-based methods.
2.You cannot enter unplanned depreciation to a unit of production asset that was placed in service
in the current period.
