Doc Sequences

While doing document assignment, we assigned a doc sequence to a wrong period, i.e instead of APR-07, we entered APR-08.
Once you make an assignment, the FNDSNASQ-Sequence Assignment window does not allow to update the record.
So we are unable to enter journal as the doc seq starts from APR-08
We can always change the corresponding record in the backend database and resolve this issue, but is there any other better way of overcoming this problem.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
